How did Ralph Boom experience his first half year at Hammer?

In December last year Ralph Boom started as Market Analyst at Hammer – Market Intelligence. During the first month’s the focus was on consultancy and research skill building. Ralph reflects on his first half year at Hammer.

Could you quickly introduce yourself?

My name is Ralph Boom, I’m 24 years old and I live in the centre of the Netherlands. In 2016, I started my Bachelor Business and Consumer studies at the Wageningen University and Research (WUR). After finishing my Bachelor I continued with the Master Management, Economics and Consumer studies. Before joining Hammer on a full-time base, I did a six months internship at a large financial institution where I was involved in implementing sustainable reporting throughout all business units.

Why did you choose to work at Hammer?

Two and a half years ago I already started working at Hammer. It was initially a part-time job for one or two days a week next to my study. So I was already familiar with the company, the projects, the people and the culture. After being asked to work on a full-time base, I decided to take up that offer. I had more options but I felt Hammer was the perfect place to apply my acquired knowledge and skills, and further develop myself. In addition, Hammer is a young, agile and flexible company, which gives me the opportunity to work across different fields of interest.

How did you experience the first months?

The past few months have been great! Since I was already quite familiar with Hammer and its way of working, I could immediately contribute to the projects. What I like is that there is a lot of variety in the projects, ranging from mapping the market for an agricultural service provider to analyzing the competitive field of a water treatment company. The atmosphere within Hammer is very good and this contributes to the quality of our work and commitment of the team. Also very nice was the fact that working from home gradually came to an end and that we can meet again in person at the office.

What projects are you currently working on?

There are several projects on which I am currently working. This period I spend most of my time on a challenging and extensive market and competition analysis for a financial service provider. More specific, the project is an assessment of the market size in different countries and a competitive field analysis. In order to do this, we created a data model to process a large amount of data in the most efficient and sustainable way possible.

Another project on which I am working is a so-called MaBa analysis (Market Attractivity and Business Assessment) for a large-scale marketing agency. With this MaBa analysis we support our client in the strategic assessment of their portfolio and corporate strategy.
